From NCS to CAPScaps

What is CAPS: It is generally defined as National Curriculum Assessment Policy. CAPS is not a new curriculum, but an amendment to the National Curriculum Statement (NCS) Grades R-12, so that the curriculum is more accessible to teachers. With the introduction of CAPS, every subject in each grade has a single, comprehensive and concise policy document that will provide details on what teachers need to teach and assess on a grade-by-grade and subject-by-subject basis. This curriculum review has the aim of lessening the administrative load on teachers, and ensuring that there is clear guidance and consistency for teachers when teaching. Terminology such as learning outcomes and assessment standards is gone and is replaced with content and skills. The Department of Education has a 5 year plan to support teachers. Sundays River Primary School is first and foremost a bilingual school. All subjects are taken in either Afrikaans or English. The choice of language remains with the parent/learner.
